Big Cook Little Cook

We would like to re-introduce community and food growing initiatives to help families discover that great food can be affordable, whether you grow it yourself or not. Food is such a big part of life and we believe all children have the right to experience and enjoy healthy, great food.

With this in mind, we are in the process of applying for funding so we can re-launch our fantastic ‘Big Cook Little Cook’ programme with accompanying family recipe book !! This was a huge success when we delivered it previously and was highly praised by health colleagues and participants alike. Our ‘Great food for pregnancy’ book also offers some great recipes to support healthy pregnancies.

We are also still working on developing our community allotment, forest areas and herb garden and working closely with partners, volunteers and our enthusiastic staff team to do so!

Please keep checking here and Facebook page @AdventureHyndburnBB5 for more exciting updates about community greengrocers, our wellness centre, new community groups and big cook, little cook updates!

Feeding Minds and Bodies
At our Little Stars Nursery we believe that healthy minds and healthy bodies go hand-in-hand. A healthy diet is proven to have a direct bearing on a child’s development and behaviour, so we insist on providing healthy, nutritious and enticing meals at all times for our ‘Little Stars’.
Health and safety for all our children is paramount and we take great care in adhering strictly to the latest food safety guidelines. All our catering staff hold current Food Hygiene certificates, following best practice at all times and you are welcome to ask us any questions about our catering arrangements. Our experienced cooks supply varied and nutritious meals based on a fish and vegetarian menu, using the freshest ingredients wherever possible. Our well-trained staff are experienced in providing for all dietary needs, so if you have a special requirement we will cater for your child on an individual basis.
If you would like to discuss our menus and find out more about our catering provision then please contact us and we will be happy to go through this with you. It is essential that you inform the Nursery Supervisor if your child has an allergy to a particular food.

Adventure Hyndburn and national education charity The County Trust are pioneering a partnership which aims to improve health and learning outcomes for children in Hyndburn schools. We will be delivering an innovative Food Discovery programme which excites young people about food and where it comes from.

We believe children have a right to experience good healthy food and to have opportunities to enjoy and achieve. Food Discovery  is about enabling young people to understand and explore where their food comes from and to encourage  positive, responsible choices when it comes to their diet. There are four key components to the programme which include a farm visit to explore and experience life on a working farm, cooking sessions  where children can then cook with the produce they have explored on the farm, a Playground market where children can plan, source and stock their very own food market and lastly, some CPD for teachers to explore ways  in which cooking, gardening and farm visits can enrich the core curriculum to broaden and sustain the impact of the programme.

We are excited to put this programme into practice, watch this space …
