This August Bank Holiday we put on an amazing spectacle in Accrington town centre. Working with The Handmade Parade, Adventure Hyndburn created an event that stunned the town by its imagination and sense of fun. Supported by the Borough Council and the Arts Council the Fantastical Forest Parade brought together families and many groups in the town making costumes and masks in the weeks leading up to The Parade.
The Parade itself consisted of huge puppets with groups of bears, foxes, owls mushrooms etc. All this was led by a 16ft giant Quercus, (Latin for Oak tree!) and accompanied by festival music from Accrington's Suco Samba Band, The Handmade Parade Band and Bay Beats Street Band from Morecambe.
This was the first parade of its type to be held in Accrington and months of hard work paid off and left the town thrilled with people wanting to know if there was going to be another one next year! Just look at the pictures to see what the excitement was about!
We would like to say a massive thank you to all who got involved with costume making, local families and families of children from Little Stars Nurseries, Motiv8, Community Solutions, Just Imagine, Lancashire Breaktime and Harv. Globe Motorcycle Club and Accrington's Community Events Team did a fabulous job volunteering to marshall the event and operating some of the bigger puppets, thank you!
Finally, thank you to Hyndburn Borough Council, The Arts Council and Handmade Parade for helping to make this fantastical idea a reality.
